CRIME NATION

Co Executive Producer - 2 Seasons

This 10 x 120 & 10 x 60 anthology series explores the dramatic impact (and strange relationship) that social media has on true crime investigations, featuring insights and analysis by NewsNation talent Ashleigh Banfield, Brian Entin, and Laura Ingle.

Produced by Candle True Stories.

  • Soup to nuts, ten 2-hour episodes were put together on a blitzkrieg schedule of less than 8 months. Kyle’s role was to streamline production with the utmost efficiency in the rush to air. As they say, sometimes the only way around the problem is through it. But the result is a brand-defining series that the client loves… and which ushers The CW into the true crime space. The result of these efforts? High-ratings and a commission for a second season!

SIGNS OF A PSYCHOPATH

Executive Producer & Writer - 3 seasons

Top 3 hit on Discovery+ for three seasons running.

Archive-led, criminal psychology series that examines the minds of violent psychopaths.

Produced by Red Marble.

  • The key challenge for these 24 episodes was crafting a mystery. That’s because the shows reveal the criminal within the first 30 seconds, rendering the typical “whodunnit” trope a non-starter. So, Kyle pursued a “whydunnit” mystery through the prism of psychology… as taken from psychopath’s own words during police interrogations. Forensic psychologists then deconstruct each killer down to their core psychopathic traits—unveiling the irrational logic behind the dark fantasies, senseless obsessions, and lingering traumas at work inside the world’s most evil psychopaths.

DEAD OF WINTER

Executive Producer & Writer

Hybrid scripted and unscripted true crime series with highly emotional interviews and stark winter recreations.

Produced by Red Marble.

  • Dead of Winter’s central conceit was itself the first hurdle… namely, identifying and producing real stories where the wrath of winter figures into the crime and investigation. The next hurdle came in crating a hybrid scripted / unscripted format where the documentary interviews would flow seamlessly into the glossy, scripted recreation scenes. Kyle put particular focus on tone, and little expense was spared in creating a winter aesthetic for the series that captures the raw emotion and cold tone of the true life tragedies.

WHEN SHARKS ATTACK

Series Producer

Highly rated Sharkfest series.

Natural history series exploring the mysterious causes behind shark attack spikes across the planet.

Produced by Optomen.

  • When Sharks Attack explores the science behind the rise in shark attacks in locales from across the world. With emotional interviews of shark attack victims conducted on the actual beaches where they occurred, underwater recreations providing the visual drama, and science demonstrations leading to unexpected reveals, each episode concludes with the fundamental cause of each shark attack spike. Kyle’s season was a ratings hit for Nat Geo Wild that earned its way into its Shark Fest franchise. The series ultimately shot its way up to air on the main network National Geographic & Disney +, where it remains to this day.

MONSTERS INSIDE ME

Series Producer - 4 seasons

Realscreen nominated series. | Long-running, worldwide hit. | 20 million viral hits.

Monsters Inside Me is the world’s first documentary horror series, and shows the hideous science of infectious diseases as told by those afflicted.

Produced by Optomen.

  • Part horror film, part medical mystery, this long-running series revealed the hideous science happening inside people with life-threatening infections. In Kyle’s tenure, he expanded the format beyond parasitic infections alone… to include all manner of medical afflictions. This resulted in more story variety across each episode and made the series much more returnable. His directing made host Dr. Dan Riskin pop, and his methodically researched scripts and scripting techniques brought viewers into the contributors’ harrowing life or death moments—emphasized with breakout (some might say “repulsive”) science animations—for 120 distinctive stories.

YOUR {BLEEPED} UP BRAIN

Executive Producer

Brain Games meets Mysteries at the Museum, this novel series shows how principles in neuroscience, psychology, and magic played a key role in changing history.

Produced by Red Marble.

  • Your {Bleeped} Up Brain had such a complicated concept that Kyle had to make the series before being able to describe its elevator pitch! Rather than treading the old “history process” tropes of most history programming, Kyle instead asked why certain events from history happened from a psychological point of view. Why did Hitler’s body double fool the Soviet Army? Why did paper mache dolls deceive the guards at Alcatraz? Why did the notion of Vampires rise in Western culture? Kyle helped develop the science experiments and magic demonstrations that paralleled these histories. And by playing them to the TV viewer, the series resolved history’s mysteries in interactive, relatable, and fun ways.
